find a dynamic and engaging environment where you can grow and be challenged in the right ways. Whether you are working onsite,
managing complex technical solutions, or supporting project delivery, we give you the opportunity to make an impact.
You have worked hard for your degree. Now it’s time to turn that knowledge into real experience. Our graduate programme gives you hands-on involvement in major projects from day one, supported by experienced Dornan professionals who want you to succeed. You will develop technical and professional skills, while continuing to learn through structured training and ongoing development. We invest in your growth so you can build a lasting career in a fast-moving industry. Along the way, you will understand why people take pride in working at Dornan - pride in their work, their team, and what they achieve together.
While you are still studying, you can gain real industry experience with a Dornan internship or placement. You will work alongside experienced professionals on live projects, seeing how your course knowledge applies in practice. Throughout your placement, you will be involved, supported and encouraged to ask questions. Our placements are designed to build confidence, develop practical skills and help you understand the career paths available to you. You will receive guidance, feedback and mentoring throughout your time with us. By the end, you won’t just understand the industry better - you will have meaningful experience that strengthens your CV and prepares you for graduate opportunities.
Our degree and craft apprenticeships offer a direct route into the industry while you earn a salary. From your first day, you will be part of a working team, learning on real projects alongside skilled Dornan tradespeople and professionals. You will combine practical experience with structured study, gaining recognised qualifications while developing valuable hands-on skills. We provide mentoring, support and clear progression so you can grow in confidence and responsibility each year. By the time you qualify, you won’t just have a certificate - you will have years of site experience, industry knowledge and a strong foundation for a long-term career with Dornan.
We are committed to engaging with primary and secondary schools to help students understand the opportunities available across our industry. Our team visits schools to give presentations, share career pathways and answer questions from students, teachers and parents. We also offer short work-experience placements, allowing students to safely observe real projects and workplaces. By working closely with educators and families, we aim to support informed subject choices and build awareness of practical and professional careers. Our goal is simple: help young people see what the industry is, how it works, and the many routes available to them in the future.
I joined Dornan in March 2024 as an intern and was immediately welcomed into a team that encouraged learning, curiosity, and hands‑on experience. Over my six‑month internship, I gained exposure to real projects and developed confidence in my abilities. I moved into a part‑time Applications Support role while completing my final year of college, which allowed me to apply what I was learning in a practical, supportive environment. Since graduating, I’ve taken on the full‑time role and continue to learn every day. The opportunities, mentorship, and culture at Dornan have made my time here so far incredibly rewarding.
I joined Dornan as a Graduate Electrical Engineer, and it’s been a great introduction to the industry. Early on I was involved on live projects, which helped me quickly understand how things really work on site. The team were always approachable, and no question ever felt like a stupid one which made a huge difference starting out. I have gained hands on experience while building confidence and learning from people with years of knowledge behind them. What’s stood out most is how much responsibility you are trusted with as a graduate while still feeling supported. Looking back now, I can see how much I have developed both technically and personally, and I’m far more confident stepping into new challenges than I was when I first started.
I joined Dornan two years ago as a summer placement student before returning to UCC for my final year. Looking to gain professional experience, I worked as an administrator for the Cork projects. During this time, I discovered a genuine interest in projects and decided to pursue this as a career path. Dornan supported me throughout this decision. I continued to work part-time during my final year and, after graduating with a BCom International degree with honours, I became a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. This role allows me to gain hands-on experience from industry professionals. Thanks to Dornan, I am currently completing a RICS Quantity Surveying certificate, and plan to begin a Level 9 postgraduate degree at ATU
